Have you or someone you love struggled to overcome chronic illness, and in the process felt utterly letdown and disillusioned by our current medical system? Are you, or have you been tired of taking pharmaceutical pills that never solve the problem and leave you dealing with undesirable side effects?

Turning to holistic and natural ways of healing has likely given you more relief and support than anything you’ve previously tried and now you’re excited and empowered to build on those successful experiences and learn everything you can about healing with what nature lovingly provides so that you can help your body heal itself, and help others do the same.

Herbalist Andrea Larsen will take you on a 4 month herbal medicine journey through the Green World as you immerse yourself in all things plant medicine. Students will meet monthly here in the Cowichan Valley on a weekend as well as be given access to an online portal for extra video resources and reading materials.

This unique program will give you the tools and the confidence to prepare your own beautiful and powerful plant medicines at home as well as deepen your connection with the natural world so that you can turn to plants in trust and gratitude to heal all manner of ailments.

We can take herbal medicine from a place of “hey, try this organic tea” to, “you can rely on this to save your life”. Whatever ails us, there are plants nearby that can come to our rescue.

Plants have always been and still are humanities primary medicines. Their complex chemistry is always adapting to environmental conditions and therefor plants have, over millions of years, honed sophisticated responses to deal with all matter of infections and environmental distress. Those chemical compounds are complex and synergistic with each other. Best of all, plants are entirely free for those who learn how to identify them where they grow, harvest, and make medicine from them. Also, plants don’t discriminate; anyone can use them, very safely.

Herbal medicines are the people’s medicine. It doesn’t take years and years of school to learn how to use plants for healing. Within the first few months of this course, you’ll be surprised at how quickly your knowledge, understanding and ability to confidently and successfully use plants as medicine, grows.

In this course, you’ll get up close and personal with the green world so that you can gain hands on experience in identifying, foraging, growing and making foods and medicines from a wide variety of medicinal and edible plants.

This Course Is For You If:

  • You’re disheartened that properly prescribed prescription drugs are now the 4th leading cause of death in the United States, and you are ready to walk away from the “pill for every ill” kind of thinking…

  • You want to live a heathier life

  • Using and trusting plants as your primary source of holistic medicine appeals to you

  • You want to always be prepared in any situation and never have to rely on pharmaceutical drugs... you want to be fully self-reliant.

  • If you’re someone who prefers to learn in a comfortable, group setting, where you get to meet the plants, taste them, smell them and see where they like to grow, and who they like to grow in community with, you’ll love this course.

This Course is Not for you if:

  • You're attached to the idea of substituting herbs in exactly the same way drugs are used.

  • You tend to trust your doctor's advice, and do what they tell you to do, even if it may have felt "wrong", because after-all, they're the expert with the degree and "Who Am I?"

  • You have no desire to use herbs instead of pharmaceuticals, or even to try.

  • You already have so much experience in working with plants and natural remedies, that generally you're disappointed whenever you take a class and feel frustrated that you didn't learn anything new.

  • While you recognize that Pharmaceutical companies have made mistakes, on the whole, you believe that what guides their work is a genuine desire to heal people which outweighs their need to make money.

  • You believe Bill Gates is a generous philanthropist

If the following statements are generally true for you, than I can honestly say this course will not be a good fit for you. I warmly request that you refrain from applying. There are many other herbal related courses that will absolutely be of more relevance for you. I bless you on your journey, may you find what you need.

If this course is exactly what you've been waiting for...

Here’s what a typical class will look like:

When you arrive, get settled with a warm cup of freshly brewed herbal tea.

We’ll start by having a brief check in with each other and have some time to share our stories of working with particular plants and putting into daily use and practice the medicines and teachings we’ve collected since our last class. Andrea will go over the day’s plan, including which plants we’ll be working with and if there will be a particular focus on a bodily system such as digestion or the circulatory system for the day. On days where we focus on a particular system, the herbs we work with will have a particular affinity and be especially useful for that system.

The day will be split up into part lecture, part skills-building. Our lectures will focus on studying theory around botany, basic human biology & physiology, plant chemistry, various herbal healing traditions, pathology and the core principles in medicine making. The hands-on, practical activities will include plant walks & field trips, plant communication, foraging, planting seeds, dividing perennials, drying herbs, making water soluble plant medicines, syrups, making alcohol extracts, and making infused oils, creams, lotions and salves and so much more. We’ll end the day with a question period and closing circle.

Usually, this program runs for the entire year, so that you’ll hone the art of medicine making throughout the seasons, learning which plants and their various parts will make the best medicines at different times, and what those medicines will help with. However, with current times, it’s been necessary to allow students a smaller time commitment than a full year. I’ve broken up the year-long course into three 4 month sections for this year. I may very well change that back next year, but for now, you are welcomed to sign up for as many sessions as needed, each one will be different and involve learning about different plants.

At the end of this program you’ll have made new friends and lifelong allies with many of the plants we work with and you’ll have a wide variety of tinctures, balms and various medicines to take home
